What’s still on your list before the year ends, and do you have room for it?

Capacity, Consistency, and Care

Mandi Graziano and Amani Roberts are in the final lap of the year, but Amani is still figuring out what he wants next after a summer of burnout. Mandi’s approach comes down to capacity, consistency and care: look at what’s filling your day, put your priorities on the calendar and give yourself credit when something goes right. Between grading papers, workouts and sponsor emails, there’s plenty to get done. But taking care of yourself needs a spot on the list, too.

Be Honest About Your Capacity

Amani spent the summer feeling burned out and stuck. With the school year underway, staying current on grading adds another responsibility to his schedule. But before he decides what to take off his plate, he needs to figure out what he wants.

“It’s kind of a little fuzzy right now.”

Mandi looks at capacity by asking what’s filling her days. Health, family, relationships and work all matter to her. She questions whether the other things taking up her attention are helping her get where she wants to go.

For Amani, that starts with finding a clearer direction. Once he knows what he’s working toward, he can make better decisions about where to spend his time.

Put Your Priorities on the Calendar

Amani is approaching a year of strength training and works out four to five days a week. He’s also working toward 20 business outreaches a week and finding morning time to grade papers before they pile up.

Some routines are established. Others still need attention.

For Mandi, consistency means giving important commitments a protected spot on her calendar.

“If it’s not in my calendar, it won’t happen.”

Her workouts, book projects and work on her speeches get that protection. When another call or request comes in, she wants to avoid automatically moving the things she had already decided were important.

Give Yourself Credit Along the Way

Mandi is reaching out to potential sponsors for a limited podcast series connected to her book. Her approach is manageable: one sponsor email each day, with a goal of five new contacts a week. When someone responds, she celebrates it.

Amani sometimes rewards a small win with 30 minutes of video games. He’s also adding reading and stretching before bed. But when it comes to celebrating a bigger accomplishment, he hasn’t decided what that would look like.

Mandi suggests making a list of rewards ahead of time. A reward could be finishing work early on a Friday or taking a moment to appreciate how far he’s come. It doesn’t have to cost money.

The same care applies when something goes wrong: Give yourself time to consider what you learned before rushing into the next task.

The Takeaway

Finishing the year starts with deciding what you still want to accomplish and being honest about the energy you have available. From there, you can make time for the work, recognize your progress and take care of yourself along the way.

Pick one thing you haven’t gotten to yet. Give it a place on your calendar and a realistic next step.
