If you hear the word manifestation and immediately think “woo-woo,” you’re not alone – but this episode of Adventures in Business will give you a new perspective. Amani and Mandi sit down with manifestation and self-leadership coach Milli Fox, who calls herself a “No BS Manifestation Mentor.” Milli takes the fluff out of manifestation to help high-achieving women stop overthinking, ditch perfectionism, and actually enjoy the life they’re building. Read on to learn how you might be manifesting without even realizing it, what advice Milli has for recovering perfectionists, and the biggest reasons women stay stuck.
Meet Milli Fox
Milli Fox is a manifestation coach, recovering perfectionist, serial entrepreneur, and Toronto-based joy-lover. Her mission? To help women dismantle limiting beliefs and rise into lives filled with alignment, abundance, and authentic freedom through funny, real, and transformative coaching.
You’re Already Manifesting
One of the most interesting takeaways from this conversation is how Milli reframes manifestation. Instead of making it feel mystical or “woo woo,” she simplifies it: if you have goals and you’re working toward them, you’re already manifesting.
She breaks it down even further:
Ever walked into a room and felt the energy?
Ever noticed how a good day tends to snowball into a better one?
That’s manifestation!
Why So Many Women Put Their Dreams on Hold
Milli points out something many high-achieving women quietly struggle with: they delay their dreams. Why? They put everyone else first and wait for the “perfect time.” Underneath that is perfectionism.
She explains that perfectionism often shows up as:
Procrastination
Overthinking
Waiting for perfect conditions
In other words: “If I can’t do it perfectly, I won’t start at all.”
The Antidote to Perfectionism: Self-Compassion
Instead of pushing harder or “grinding it out,” Milli teaches self-compassion as a tactical tool.
She teaches a balance of:
Yin compassion: kindness, understanding, patience
Yang compassion: honest, firm self-leadership
It’s not about letting yourself off the hook – it’s about supporting yourself in a way that actually moves you forward.
“Messy Action” To Beat Perfectionism
If there’s one phrase to take from this episode, it’s this: messy action is always better than no action. Waiting until you’re ready, confident, or fully prepared? That moment usually never comes. But taking one small, imperfect step? That’s how you build confidence, momentum, and self-trust.
Why People Stay Stuck
When Amani asks what keeps people stuck, Milli identifies a big reason: they don’t trust themselves.
And according to Milli, there are two main ways to build self-trust:
1. Keep Promises to Yourself
Every time you follow through, you reinforce trust. Every time you don’t, you chip away at it.
2. Take Risks
Because either way, you win. If you succeed, confidence grows. If you fail, resilience grows. But if you don’t act, you get neither.
The Opposite of Depression
Milli shared an important quote: “The opposite of depression is expression.” It’s a reminder that we’re not meant to just consume – we’re meant to create. Whether it's writing, content creation, art, or music, expression helps you reconnect with yourself.
And when you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or “crunchy” (her word for that tight, overthinking energy), the solution might not be doing more… It might be creating more.
How Milli Manifested Her Fiancé
After her divorce, Milli knew what she wanted in a new partner. She created a detailed list – not just surface-level traits, but categories that actually make up a person’s life:
Health
Business and ambition
Family values
Personality and connection
By the time she was done, she had written down 80-90 qualities. Alongside that clarity, Milli practiced something else: she imagined the feeling of being loved and safe. She was open to meeting new people, and so when she first met her fiancé, her first thought was, “We’ll probably just be friends.”
And instead of forcing a narrative, she leaned into something she says is one of the most powerful energies for manifestation: curiosity. No pressure or expectations, but let’s just see what happens.
Years later, she revisited her life and saw that her fiancé matched 80-90% of what she had written down – plus other traits she hadn’t thought of. What you receive can be even better than what you imagined!
The Advice She’d Give Her Younger Self
When asked what she’d tell her 18-year-old self, Milli said she’d tell herself to be more intentional about what you want – especially in relationships.
Because while many of us are taught to be intentional about careers, goals, and achievements, we’re rarely told we can be just as specific about love and partnership.
If you take nothing else from this episode, remember that you’re allowed to want more in your life. You can define what “right” looks like for you, and not settle just because something is “good enough.”
