In this very important mini episode of Adventures in Business, Mandi and Amani are talking about what resilience looks like in action, how it plays a role in both business and personal growth, and why it’s one of the most important traits to cultivate.

What is Resilience?

Amani shares his definition of resilience: the ability to continuously bounce back after defeat without stopping or giving up. Mandi adds her own take, linking resilience to grit, determination, and tenacity.

Real-Life Examples of Resilience

Mandi talks about her current health journey as an example of resilience – juggling a sleep schedule, workouts, meditation, journaling, and running multiple businesses across different time zones. It’s a daily challenge, but she stays committed and keeps going.

For Amani, resilience showed up in the process of writing and launching his book. The journey was tough, but he persisted, and that dedication paid off. And for a time his resilience was truly tested – one moment that stands out is leaving the hotel industry. While some might see it as quitting, he reframes it as switching gears to something better aligned with his goals.

H2: Knowing When to Push and When to Pause

One of the key takeaways from their conversation is that resilience isn’t just about pushing through at all costs. Sometimes, the best thing you can do is pause, assess, and decide whether it’s time to keep going or take a new path. As Mandi puts it, resilience isn’t just about force – it’s also about recognizing when to wait and when to pivot.

H2: Who Embodies Resilience?

Amani shares the story of The Whispers, a music group that released their first song in 1964 but didn’t achieve a Billboard Top 10 hit until 1987 – 23 years later! That kind of perseverance is rare, but it’s a testament to what’s possible when you keep going despite setbacks. Mandi reflects on her own role models – her parents – who built a life through resilience, navigating struggles and successes while raising four kids at a young age.

H2: The Grit Factor: Why Resilience is Hard to Maintain

Resilience is often seen as part of a larger equation that includes courage, passion, and perseverance. But why is it the hardest to maintain? Amani believes it’s because quitting is often the easier choice. Whether it’s a new business venture, sales calls, or even working out – many people start strong but give up when the going gets tough.

Mandi adds that resilience is the result of perseverance. Sometimes, you don’t get immediate results, and that’s frustrating. But resilience isn’t about instant gratification – it’s about trusting the process and pushing through, even when success isn’t guaranteed.

H2: Mindset Matters: The Key to Resilience

Amani wraps up the conversation by emphasizing the importance of an abundant mindset. To stay resilient, you have to believe that success is possible and that setbacks are temporary. A fixed mindset – where you believe things will never change – can be a major roadblock to resilience.

Mandi agrees, noting that resilience is as much about mindset as it is about action. Believing in yourself and your ability to overcome challenges is what keeps you moving forward, no matter what obstacles arise.
