In this Adventures in Business mini episode, Mandi and Amani are back – this time talking about all things courses, including Amani’s new course! They’re talking about what exactly courses are, why they matter, and how Amani created one to complement his book and coaching work.

What Is a Course?

If the word “course” makes you think of dry corporate training modules or hours of note-taking while glued to your desk… think again.

Amani defines a course as an online, often self-paced learning experience, usually centered around videos and focused on a specific topic. Sometimes they include live components (like a monthly Q&A or Zoom session), but they don’t have to.

Mandi shares how she loved Jesse Itzler’s course “Normal is Broken” – especially because it fit into her life in a flexible way. Whether she was walking her dog or riding her bike, she could listen and learn. For her, it felt more like a multi-layered podcast than a traditional “course.”

So if you’ve been intimidated by the idea of creating or taking a course, maybe it’s time to reframe it. Think of it as content you already enjoy – just a little more organized.

Why Amani Built a Course

Mandi recently spotted Amani’s new course in his newsletter and wanted the full scoop. Turns out, the course launched alongside his book and is also included for clients who sign up for coaching. It's a mini-course all about creative brand building and risk taking in your business.

This mini-course includes five modules:

  • Creative Branding

  • Crafting Your Creative Identity

  • Strategic Marketing

  • Practicing Creative Risk-Taking and Growth

  • Implementation and Community Building

Each module has 4-5 short lessons, packed with personal stories, examples, and takeaways. It’s designed to help people strengthen their brand and grow their creative business – and it’s just the right size for busy professionals who want value without the overwhelm.

The BTS of Course Creation

Amani built the course using Thinkific with help from his team at Book Launchers (shoutout to Julie Broad’s crew!). He used Loom to record the videos – sharing his screen while talking through his presentation. A designer then edited the videos, keeping Amani’s voice and visuals but trimming the rest.

All in all? It was a great learning experience, and now he’s even thinking about creating a more in-depth course for the music industry down the line.

The course is regularly $99, but newsletter subscribers get a special $50 rate (But don’t mention the word “newsletter” to Mandi… she’s not a fan!).

Adding a Course Means Options for Your Audience

As Mandi points out, people learn in all kinds of ways – some like reading, some prefer listening, and others love video. By offering his content in a course format, Amani is meeting people where they are. Whether someone finds him through speaking gigs, coaching, or the book, this course is an easy “yes” for those who want more.

It’s also a great way to build community and offer value beyond a one-time interaction.
