What if one of the biggest advantages in business today is simply sitting down and reading a physical book?

In this episode of Adventures in Business, Amani Roberts and Mandi Graziano sit down with author, entrepreneur, and BookThinkers founder Nick Hutchison, whose podcast and author growth agency help connect mission-driven authors with readers around the world. Nick shares how discovering business books completely changed the direction of his life and why he believes resonance matters far more than reach in today’s content landscape. The conversation explores book marketing, podcast tours, live author events, creativity, and why so many authors fail to think about promotion early enough in the writing process.

Meet Nick Hutchison

Nick Hutchison is the founder of BookThinkers, a 7-figure author growth agency helping mission-driven authors connect with readers around the world. He is also the author of Rise of the Reader and host of the globally top 1% podcast BookThinkers: Life-Changing Books.

But Nick was not always a reader.

Growing up, he identified more with sports than academics. Everything changed during a college internship when he started listening to business podcasts during his long commute. Again and again, successful entrepreneurs credited books for shaping how they thought and solved problems. That realization completely changed his trajectory.

Resonance Matters More Than Reach

One of the biggest themes from the conversation was Nick’s belief that resonance matters more than reach. In a world obsessed with views and virality, Nick believes too many people try to create content for everyone instead of speaking directly to the people they actually understand. When Nick creates content today, he thinks about the younger version of himself who needed guidance and direction.

That approach creates connection instead of performance. Instead of chasing vanity metrics, Nick encourages creators to focus on:

  • Building trust

  • Creating emotional connection

  • Speaking to a specific audience

  • Sharing relatable experiences

  • Making content that genuinely helps people

Why Physical Books Still Matter

Nick also shared why he believes physical books are more important than ever.

While short-form content continues to dominate attention online, Nick explained that books force people to slow down and focus deeply on one idea at a time. Instead of multitasking through fragmented clips and summaries, readers follow an entire thought process from beginning to end.

For Nick, physical books are not just about learning information. They help improve:

  • Focus

  • Attention span

  • Critical thinking

  • Reading comprehension

  • Deep engagement with ideas

In a distracted world, Nick believes books create an unfair advantage for people willing to slow down and think deeply.

The Biggest Mistake Authors Make

As the founder of BookThinkers, Nick has worked with countless authors launching books. According to him, the biggest mistake is waiting too long to think about marketing.

Many authors spend years writing a book but only begin promoting it after launch. Nick explained that successful book launches require months of preparation long before the book becomes available.

That preparation often includes:

  • Audience building

  • Podcast appearances

  • Social content creation

  • Community engagement

  • Live events and author readings

The conversation also touched on podcast tours and the importance of creating authentic experiences that help readers feel connected to both the author and the message
